Overview
Come to The Hippo for a night of pure folk music awesomeness as we gather together the very finest British folk bands & singer songwriters from the South West. Beautiful music and toe-tapping genius. A night not to be missed.
All The Fires
All The Fires are a 6-piece band from the far west of Cornwall, whose original songs combine a modern folk sentiment with a love of popular song. With two female lead singers and an enchantingly delicate live set, their unique sound has been captivating audiences since they formed in 2008.
With members whose performing backgrounds span folk, rock, country and classical music, the songs bely a diverse range of influences, yet are all tied together by consistently catchy tunes and thoughtful arrangements.
Their lyrics are spun with imagery of the open sea, dark skies and fleeting birds, and are played out with a lush and harmonious backing of vocals, guitars, piano, cello, bass, drums, mandolin, glockenspiel and melodica.
All The Fires released their self-produced debut EP 'The Map' to great acclaim in 2009, and will be headlining gigs in London, Bristol and Manchester this year as well as performing at several festivals throughout the summer.

Chandelier Falls
Chandelier Falls are an alternative / folk band who blend three part harmonies with guitar riffs that conjure feelings deep down. Chandelier Falls' live performances are simultaneously discomforting and reassuring. Ian Skriczka’s clear falsetto and Vincent Callan’s feral vocals are perfectly anchored by Sarah Corfield’s feminine yet powerful harmonies. Stripping back the arrangements also leaves the audience in no doubt of what’s at the heart of their lyrics. The recent addition of Ewan Kemp (drums) and Andy Lawrence (Bass) bring added depth and energy to the bands sound. Formed in October 2008, Vincent, Ian and Sarah met on Bristol’s open-mic circuit and were soon playing regular sets across Bristol, Liverpool and Bath. They have played numerous gigs including support slots with The Bombardiers, Six Figures,The Pastels, Ten Ton Tongue. "Chandelier Falls were at home right away with a stunning set, showing off their unique vocal structure to full effect." Review from Trinity Garden Party Unlike many of their contemporaries, Chandelier Falls’ discomforting and uplifting sound has its roots firmly planted in alternative rock. The band all come from eclectic musical backgrounds ranging from alt-metal to musical theatre but their mutual influences combine to give Chandelier Falls a sound that is unique and truly their own.

Liz Lawrence
Liz was described by Tom Robinson on his BBC 6 introducing show as 'amazing'. She first picked up a guitar at the age of eight and started playing in bands at the age of thirteen. Her sound has been influenced by artists from Bob Dylan and Joe Strummer to Feist and Jamie T. Liz Lawrence has a unique vocal that can captivate and woo her audiences across the nation from the Edinburgh fringe to ITC Manchester. She has been described as 'fantastically engaging live, the timbre of her voice glides right over you'. Going solo in 2008 and moving off to stand on her own two feet in Devon has proved to be a great move for her song writing, she is now writing, recording and producing some of her own works and has played gigs all over the Uk. It was said in Bristols Venues magazine that 'Ms Lawrence has the potential to be a fresh breeze sweeping through a stale form.'
