Saturday mornings running to spend his pocket money on the latest 45s have transformed into Saturday nights playing them to packed dance-floors across the world. It have been a few years but Spin Doctor’s passion for music new & old has remained a constant. There was a noticeable change when back in ’88 when his sister brought home a copy of the Beatie Boys “Licence to Ill”. He heard bits of the Soul & Rock records he had been buying in a way that fascinated & excited him in equal measure.
He had discovered Hip-Hop & then the party really started.
Early years were spent in any venue big enough to take his Sativa Sound System while more recent times have seen Spin packing clubs with his regular The Doctor’s Orders & SoulBrew events. Throughout it has always been clear that when it comes to rocking a party Spin Doctor has the Midas touch. While best known for his energetic Hip-Hop sets with Spin on the decks you can expect to hear his beloved Hip-Hop, classic Funk, Rare Groove & Disco mixed with a few unexpected floor-fillers and always expertly put together with a style influenced by his love of Hip-Hop born that afternoon lying on his sister’s bedroom floor listening to the Beastie Boys do their thing logo. Whatever he plays one thing is guaranteed the dance-floor will be packed with smiling faces and shaking asses!
As well as London residencies at his own nights The Doctor’s Orders, SoulBrew & On The Real Spin’s distinctive party style has also seen him invited to enjoy residencies at Legendary London venues Fabric & The Jazz Café. And guest spots at massive events like the Southport Weekender and the BBE parties @ Canvas alongside the likes of Jazzy Jeff, DJ Premier, DJ Spinna, Dimitri from Paris, Louie Vege & Carl Craig.
Through rocking these events and one off sets for anything from B-Boy battles to film rap parties anywhere from Turkey and New York to Canada and Dubai Spin Doctor has had the pleasure to play alongside some of his heroes in the shapes of De La Soul, KRS-One, DJ Cash Money, DJ Babu, Kool DJ Herc, Afrika Bambaataa, Norman Jay, Jazzie B & DJ Shadow among many others. Having successfully tried his hand in production & radio (Breaks Fm/Bounce FM & guest spots on BBC 1xtra) Spin still prefers to concentrate his time on what he does best, rocking parties with the open minded party selection that has seen dance-floors packed throughout the years all over the world.
With the success of his own nights and DJ sets around the world Spin is now putting it down on disk with a selection of themed mix CD’s that display the range of his musical passions and skills on the decks. With a mix dedicated to 90’s “Golden Era” Hip-Hop, a double disk J-Dilla tribute mix and a his most recent double disk dedication to 50 years of Motown already under his belt and plenty more mixes planned for the future Spin Doctor is one name you are sure to hear time and time again over the next couple of years.
